Like it or not, winter weather will get to us in a few months, just like every year. It’s the way of nature. If you’ve been riding an ATV for some time, you know that there are two camps when it comes to using ATVs in the winter: some park them until the snow melts away and others just use the power they have under the hood to fight winter like a pro.

This article, I hope, will help latter category and inspire the first one. It features some tricks to make your life easier, some ways you could use your ATV safely to clean your driveway, and of course, we will talk about the accessories one might need for all wintertime adventures.

Simply explained, my first tip on how an ATV can be the greatest helper in cold weather is to get premium snow tires.  If you’re going to remove snow with the wheeler, some good and inexpensive ATV snow tires can make a huge difference. They are also going to add a new layer of safety, as the vehicle won’t slip on ice that easily.

The unique lugs on the tires are situated at a more considerable distance than the standard one, to allow the snow to be cleared from the tires with ease, so you could keep digging forward. Change to a taller type of tire, if you can, to get more clearance and to help you avoid hanging up on the snowpack.

Furthermore, if you really want to do a good job, you have to add a plow to the mix. It is the element that is going to help you the most, so even if it snows heavily, you don’t have to rely on the proper authorities to be saved, as they sometimes can take a long time before they reach your neighborhood.

Just mount the plow to the ATV, and clean that road. You will be glad you invested in one of these products, especially if you have a big family. You never know or can predict when an emergency situation arises, and you have to rush to the hospital. If you have a snow plow in your garage, winter will never be a problem again. Not from this point of view, anyway.

So, another smart way to winterize your ATV is to add some accessories to make the cold ride and snow removal more enjoyable. Go for some quality windshields, which can make lovely additions all year round and for a cool pair of riding gloves, so that you can handle the vehicle even at low temperatures.

Other accessories you can invest in are riding boots with wool lining, an insulated helmet and you can even change the oil of the machine for one that can resist temperatures that are below the freezing point.
